Our Services

Professional Development with Schools

We offer a variety of professional development options, both across the country and internationally. There are opportunities to host staff developers, take part in principal conferences, and become a part of a community of practice that includes hundreds of schools. We also offer introductory professional development packages for schools that would like targeted, focused support on topics such as writing about reading and essay writing, teaching with decodable texts, raising the level of nonfiction reading, and more. For more information about receiving professional development services from TC Advancing Literacy in your school or district, please apply for services.

Local Summer Institutes

Teachers College Advancing Literacy is pleased to design site-based summer institutes with our partner schools and districts. All of our institutes are research-based and focus on pedagogies as well as content. Local Summer Institutes may be virtual or in-person, and they may span 2-5 days depending on the topic. Institutes may span any group size and may address more than one topic, depending on the availability of instructors and your needs. To schedule a Local Summer Institute, please review our brochure for Summer 2024 or select Apply for Services.

Foundational Reading Skills Online Modules

Teachers College Advancing Literacy will offer online modules, November 25, 2024, to support educators’ understanding of the Science of Reading and foundational reading skills. Participants will learn about the research supporting the ‘Big 6’—oral language development, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The ultimate goal is to enable educators’ understanding of students’ intersecting literacy needs, in order to devise comprehensive, responsive instruction, and curricular adaptations, to move all students to reading proficiency.
